El Triste

El triste.
I am at my mirror,
unable to glance up,
to the disappointed gaze,
of a girl who hoped for better,
but settled for something that made sense.
I am wrapped in the velvet rope,
that holds me,
from the woman I want to be,
and I am ashamed,
but apathetic,
that I didn’t fight for myself.
