Dreamlover

Many suns have set since I dared to look my heart in the eye.

The key I used to carry vanished from my nightstand,

unnoticed as it slipped away in the night,

and I began singing in the shower again,

as if life was beautiful.

Dear, darling heart.

I thought of her,

and she called to me,

as the sun rose for me,

and fell for another.

I fumbled along my nightstand as I dressed,

dripping in diamonds and damned dreams,

dancing through perfumed scenes and cyclones of shy words,

but the key for the cage I kept her in eluded me.

The sun soared,

while sleeping for another,

and my heart balanced her cheery smile against her bars,

singing along,

long after the shower was done,

watched with my curious, cautious eyes.
