Background Noise

The world was way too loud.
I whispered my worst deeds to your waiting ears,
slipping my secrets under the already exhausted rug in the hopes that you would be as overwhelmed by the bellowing Earth as I was, and wouldn’t hear.
My luck was lost to the summer breeze,
my dirt as clear as a bell,
but your hand in mine was still and steady,
staying through the anxious tap dance of my hurried, heavy heart,
and long after.
