Diamond Teardrops

There was nothing else I could say to myself.
Nothing I could say,
nobody to persuade,
just a stunned silence under the stars,
a planet that had stopped turning,
surroundings that stood still, peering over my shoulder to see everything from my perspective.
You can see my eyelashes from space,
extended and decorated with diamond teardrops.
I cry for what I can’t control,
and that’s a lot.
