I awoke with lightning behind my eyes,
pushing painkillers into pursed lips,
wondering if it got any better,
but deciding not to tempt fate,
and to just take it as it came.
I recalled her eyes so bright,
in our beautiful playground,
the places she takes me,
when my eyes are heavy,
and it took the edge off a little.
Last night,
when the lights were low and the moon was making her debut,
brand new in the sky,
she stood before me,
her kiss, so gentle, so hopeful,
and it was the only gift I had truly desired,
in my thirty spins around the Earth.
