Bed Death

There’s an awful lot of lying that goes on at sea,

but not on board our boat.

We have been lost to the fleeting foam and wailing waves for weeks,

starving for sensation as the ice keeps us captive.

I trace the frost across your face as the sun smiles in taunting terror.

This was my greatest fear.
