Brian tried to tell me,
everything will turn out alright.
I buried myself under my blankets,
because he was wrong,
and I didn’t want to face that reality just yet.
I never thought the night could last so long,
but there I was,
repeating the way you said,
“I love you too baby”,
until my head was a ventriloquist,
your voice
spouting from lips that you had conquered,
but did not yet own.
I never said it first,
but you knew,
because you watched me closer than I had anticipated you would.
I was alone,
but I was surrounded by you.
I said that you matter to me,
once,
just quiet enough that you wouldn’t hear,
but loud enough that I’d know I said it.
You said,
“I want to be the name on all your pages.”
I assumed you were crazy,
but I kissed you anyway.
I meant it.
Maybe,
everything will turn out alright.
