First Kiss

My first kiss,

was a tragedy.

Not Greek,

or Shakespearean,

just us.

I shook,

inside your guilty grasp,

not your niece,

but just as nice as Catherine.

You tell me twice,

you can’t believe the mess,

as you gaze,

from the bridge,

where people like us end up,

enjoying the view,

before we throw ourselves off.

Sweet sixteen,

your precocious princess.

You confess,

hands down where heaven rests,

and learns to love your clumsy caress.

I meow to the melancholy melody,

of each mea culpa,

waiting for you to decide,

if you are my lover,

my father,

or my teacher.

You didn’t mind the games I’d played,

you told me I could toy with you,

and I’d be safe,

from the harsh, harmful hands,

of my previous playground peril.

You tutored me in trouble,

I took notes on a tongue I didn’t know how to use,

as the narrator got weary of our weakness,

and abandoned the script,

on the tired theatre floor.

Bad behaviour,

on the Brooklyn docks.

You moved me,

with Marlowe,

and Miller,

then mauled me,

which my adolescent adoration overlooked.

Lust,

too much.

Going where it shouldn’t,

perversely predictable,

because men like you,

love girls like me,

forever.

Staying After School

Valleys,
groves,
hills and fields,
my love,
I heard your name in every one,
every waning whisper of the wind,
as I lay in your lap,
wary but wild,
and you read to me.
I was taken from the ground,
you know,
little girl lost to your gust.

I must stress,
I was literate before we met,
but under your passionate perception,
my eyes were carefully cut open,
extended,
immensely,
suddenly selfless,
I learned how to read,
with my humble, hungry hands.
You stripped me down,
building back up,
until I was taller than the trees,
where you taught me how to Polish kiss.

We built nature,
with paper,
after hours,
when the moon was moving closer.
My naked neck,
made for your hook.
A pretty lamb,
and a man who should have known better,
but was too beaten up by life to care.

I fell asleep on roses,
in your coral clasp,
one finger on your lips,
to shush the sheep,
so I wouldn’t awake,
from our forest filled fantasy.
I don’t suppose you ever loved me,
or, I, you,
or maybe we do,
still,
and we just pretend,
so the chasm we created,
doesn’t feel so confining.

You’re A Crushing Bore (But I’ve Got A Crush On You)

Hola amigos,

You can now check out my new video, which features a brand new poem.

I hope you enjoy it!

Besos,

J x

You spent two hours,
telling me you’d never break my heart.
You spent two hours,
breaking my heart,
just from wrapping it,
so tightly,
that it suffocated.

I fantasised,
about your nights,
as a werewolf.
My fingers lost in your fur,
the flurries of your broken restraint.
I am scarred,
under the stars,
but in the morning
you overflowed with apologies,
when the moon was put to bed,
and you awoke,
worried about what I thought of you.

When the sun is in our eyes,
you’re a crushing bore,
but I’ve got a crush on you.
My hands speak a language that I know you understand,
but most days,
you pretend your whole body is deaf.
I play on the tracks,
hoping for a highspeed service,
to take me somewhere sublime,
but you’re still waiting at the station,
ignoring green light,
after green light.

You swing,
and you miss,
by not playing at all.
I stole your mind,
from your back pocket,
in some bar,
where you were so interesting,
insane,
a tornado.
Your destruction,
delicious,
lasted minutes,
before you shrank to the ground,
found naked in a field,
and I am marked,
missing the man you become,
when the moon comes out.
